My last entry was rather scrappy, the internet was down when I really wanted to update and I did not feel like it when I had the internet again.
We went on a long boat motor boat thingy ride on the river in Bangkok which was very very nice. The Zoo was also interesting! I have many bad photos of animals.
Flight from Bangkok to Rome took 12 hours. We left at midnight Bangkok time and arrived 6am Rome time, thus losing 6 hours of time. Slept plenty, but I would not call it good sleep on a plane despite the amount of it. Getting through Customs in Rome took over an hour, but we made it through and managed to catch the right train and find the Backpackers we were booked at finally. Left our bags and went off walking to the Colloseum. The line was big so we wandered off a bit and found these awesome ruins, and the "Palantino" ruins (palace, we think). I think the Palatino was a lot more impressive than the Colloseum. Sure the Colloseum is big, but there was not a lot of detail or design or anything, just something big made of tiny bricks. The Palantino had an extremely nice garden and there was a ruined temple there too! I took many many photos, so many that my batteries went flat.
Yesterday we went to the Vatican. We saw the Sistine Chapel, which cost 13 Euros. It was a big line through many different painted and decorated rooms, so many that when we finally got to the Chapel itself, it was just a larger version of the previous rooms to me. The picture of God touching Adam I was expecting to be a lot more impressive, but it just blended in with all the other pictures. We then went to The Basilica de San Pietro (San Pietro is Saint Peter) which is also in the Vatican. IMPRESSIVE! It impressed me in the way that I expected the Sistine Chapel to do. It had grandness of scale, many statues, many paintings, etc. Alas, my batteries died about this point, since I had already taken about 250 photos that day! So less photos of the impressiveness than I would have liked :(
Tried to call Zig last night at 11pm (7am Perth time) but he had already left for work, so I called the parents instead for a bit. SMSed Zig for his work number and called him at 11:30pm. It was good to hear the voices at the end of my fourth night away. This backpackers is nice. The desk people speak english, and we are booked into a room where they seem to have booked other english speaking people too, so there is ease of communication. We are here one more night and then we are off to Florence! Today the plan is to do laundry - no holiday from that *heh*
The keyboard I am typing on is odd. The letters and numbers are all in the same place, but all the symbols are mixed up to the extreme, plus sometimes the symbols are different to what the keys say too! I simply could not find the apostraphe key so I have made do. The AT symbol is weirdly placed on a key too, there are the normal two symbols that you access like normal and with the shift key, and then the AT symbol shares the bottom line to the right. I have no idea how to access that either, I used cut and paste to get my AT symbol for my hotmail.
Anyway, I shall be off and having a shower. It is 10:10am here right now. Must remember that when Perth daylight savings is over that the timezone difference will revert from 8 hours to only 7 hours.
Seeya! *mwah*
