Traffic vs Pedestrians

On Guildford Rd in Mount Lawley, I saw a sight that got me thinking. There was a truck parked on the verge outside a big block of flats, possibly a delivery truck. Real estate being a premium in Mount Lawley, the verge isn't very big, so the truck had covered right from the curb up to the fence, including the footpath, in an effort to not be on the road during high peak hour traffic.
As I was coming up to the truck, an elderly lady on a motorised cart peeped her front wheels onto the road to see past the truck and judge the traffic. I watched her in my rear view mirror, and she managed to find a rare gap in the traffic to trundle into the face of oncoming cars and get around the truck obstruction. I think there was a driveway just the other side so she would have been able to get back on the footpath.
But what do you do in a situation like that? It's terribly dangerous for pedestrians, but it would be a nightmare for traffic if the truck was even partially on the road at that time of day. I thought about it, but couldn't think of any good solution.

In a normal fit and healthy state, I'd more than likely just walk around it on the road side though.
In my current state, I'd be more likely to be a right pain in the arse to the considerate inconsiderate truckie.

Date: 2009-01-21 07:54 am (UTC)I feel somewhat ashamed that I didn't think of the situation itself specifically, now that you mention it. But as my excuse-after-the-fact I was driving on my way to work, late because I couldn't find the cat this morning, and I guess I don't tend to think of police for things like that.
