Upcoming Party

I'm having Issues with choosing a costume. It's not fair. I love dressing up so much, but have such a hard time deciding on a costume. First I thought I'd be a peacock. I have the perfect costume planned for it, bu t it's not very Halloween like. Solution: Have an animal theme for my birthday! *grin* Then I thought I'd be a swamp witch or something. Had half the costume planned, but I'd have to put mud in my hair for the costume to work, and then I'd have to wash it out before bed, so it is not a good option. Must think better. Must think of teh awesomest costume before Saturday.
House:
Had a massive clean-up yesterday. Normally, pig-sty would be an insufficient description to describe our house. Gross would be a better description. It creeps up so slowly that we acclimatise to it as it happens. The good thing about having parties is that it forces cleaning of the gross pig-sty on us. So yesterday, Z took on the massive task of cleaning the hallway table and the loungeroom. He did wonders, it looks fabulous. He even got some more shelves to put the DVDs, discs, etc that we have collected since we last looked at our shelving needs. I did two sinkfuls of dishes, then cleaned the bathroom (this was really disgusting) and the toilet (this was even more disgusting). Our toilet used to overflow the cistern a bit after refilling, so that water spattered on the ground and down the drain behind the toilet. All the extra moisture caused little black mould spots to grow along the walls. Happened so slowly that didn't really notice it until it was all there, etc, more excuses and reasons. Little black mould spots all gone now, thick dust on ledges gone, and the toilet is looking as clean as an old toilet can. Those little black spots had gone up the wall behind the laundry tap too, so I got rid of those and cleaned the layered dust off the washing machine at the same time. Yes, I know, I can't believe we let it get that bad either, but hey! it's clean now! Still to do: wash the last few pots and pans, sweep, mop, attack my room and clear at least a walkway, and try to reduce the junkpile in the bedroom. Also planning to call in carpet cleaners to clean carpet and lounge before Saturday, due to the fact my bro says it smells like cat piss. We can't smell it, gotten used to it I guess. Mum can't smell either, but she has cats too. Dad said that my bro says their place smells like cat piss too *snerk*.
Food:
This is planned without being planned so far. Have in my head a swirl of thoughts about what I'm going to do, but I haven't sat down and figured out exactly what I need to make and therefore buy ingredients for. I have already bought non-perishables like chips and lollies, so just the dinner component to go now. Solid thoughts involve a chicken, a chunk of ham, coleslaw, tater salad, salad, and most likely fruit salad too. The rest is all non-solid thoughts still.
Entertainment:
Have not given thought to this at all. People end up just sitting around talking anyway from experience other parties I've had. We have the ping-pong table as usual. I have a few board games, but again, experience has shown that people do not play these. Entertainment seems to just work itself out, which is why I haven't really thought about it much.
Decoration:
Haven't really planned this either. There'll be the standard streamers and balloons that I do, not much other than that. I asked for and got given fairy lights as a present last year, and I got them out yesterday and wrapped them around the pillars on the front verandah. Pretty! Love! Z just doesn't get the wonder of fairy lights, so they won't be put on except for at the party and other such occasions, but I still get my wonder of fairy lights at home now.
Last words:
sonnlich, do you still remember the way to my house?

Date: 2005-10-25 04:47 am (UTC)And guess who bought halloween themed candy and some halloween decorations for the party of a certain friend? (dr_jekyl take note...if you come to party you get candy corns!). Was going to buy paper plates and stuff too but poor little suitcase can take no more.. God, I can't believe how much cool halloween stuff there is over here!!
May be intensely jet lagged but I will be there for a while at least, me and my seven dollars fifty (bargain) costume.
