Sometimes when it's hot I end up stripping in the loungeroom while watching TV. Shortly after getting out of bed this morning, I saw my skirt in the middle of the loungeroom floor instead next to the coffee table where I left it. Something fell out when I went to pick it up. Dead rat, lovely. Don't know how it ended up in my skirt in the middle of the floor, but the cat would have been the one to catch it. I wrapped it in junk mail and put it in the kitchen bin as a stop gap measure.
So I get ready for work and chop up some rockmelon and put it and some strawberries on a plate to take with me for breakfast in my car. About to walk out the door 5 minutes earlier than usual and grab the bin with the rat to put in the big wheelie bin. I discover....maggots! Now when our bin gets full, it's usually at night when neither Z nor myself wants to walk out to the wheelie. We end up just tying the top of the plastic bag and leaving it next to the bin. Everything tends to get thrown out each week for the garbage collection, unless we're being especially lazy. One of the bags sitting there had spawned the maggoty critters and they had spilt out everywhere. Cleaned it up as best I could *blech*, but I think a few may have escaped me. Some were caught in a small web against the skirting board near the front door. I left it for a bit because of the web. Don't like webs, they mean spiders. Was about to clean it anyway, and I discover a baby redback (still mottled grey and all). I don't like killing things myself (not even mosquitos), so I left it its feast and hope Z can get rid of the spider tonight.
Bloody maggots made me 10 minutes late to work, since I couldn't quite just leave them to crawl through to house. Thoughts of maggots kinda ruined the taste of my breakfast too. Bah.
