Fire Danger

Last night I was wanting a hot dog for dinner for some strange and bizarre reason. The local Carols by Candlelight was on, so I went there and sang a carol or two. Then I picked up a hot dog for me and a hamburger for Z, a candle, and two icypoles. Had my mini carols at home without the carols.

So I had the candle lit. These local Carols are nifty in that they provide the candle with a hot chip cup. The candle is pushed through a hole in the bottom and voila! instant wind protection. I pushed the candle up so that it would sit on the table without me holding it.

Z went to bed and I stayed up for tv and the candle. I got distracted, and went off down to my room to search for something. Upon finding it, I returned to the loungeroom to see a little flameball sizzling the varnish on Z's computer table. Shit! The paper cup was a fragile shell of black so when I knocked it, it flew on the carpet and scattered. Luckily there was only one flame bit left and the rest were puny embers. I squash the flame and the embers, and the night was saved.

There's an impressive charcoal circle with wax around the edge on the table now. I am very glad my search didn't take very long, or the fire may have been less easy to stop. There were a few long seconds where I thought I wouldn't be able to.

Never leave candles unattended!
