Picked up my new glasses last night. I'm quite happy with the new design. The prescription is similiar to my last one, but adjusted because my eyes have apparently flattened slightly. They caused me to feel a bit dizzy when I tried them on in the shop last night. The standard thing for new glasses is to wear them as much as possible for a week, and then you'll either have adjusted to them or you'll know for sure you need something different. So I put them on this morning and have persevered. The dizzy effect went away within 10 minutes, but the strange effect hasn't. I'm sure to have eye strain by tonight, the way things are going, but hey! I have purdy new glasses!

Only one week until Cirque Du Soleil: Dralion with my family. Quidam was fantastic when I saw it, and I'm really looking forward to Dralion.

There's a bunch of rainbow lorikeets busy being noisy and enjoying themselves in the gumtree blossoms just outside.

Been having wedding thoughts lately. We've decided on a strict budget of $5000, so all the ideas that have kicked around my head this last year and a half have taken into account the grand and the cheap, switching between the two depending on if the day or the budget was my emphasis. So on Sunday I decided it would be a good step to create a budget spreadsheet. I used Google Docs so that I can access the spreadsheet wherever I am (most places have internet nowadays). Down the left side I put all the expenses a wedding can incur, and along the top I put "cheap", "middle", and "pricey". Then I put in all the ideas I've had, and highlighted my favourite options so far. It's really helped clarify my thoughts. Now I know where I can splurge a little more, or where I have to tame my impulses. Naturally it will be a work in progress over the next two and a half years, but it's already come in handy for my thought processes.

A couple of days later I realised that I hadn't put rings into the spreadsheet, so that kick-started thinking about them. Platinum is a bit far for the budget, so probably titanium or white gold. Titanium is stronger and cheaper, but you can't resize the rings. White gold is a bit softer and costs a bit more, but you can resize it if need be. The whole choice may be moot anyway though. Since Zig works around electricity and machines as an automation technician, a ring is a safety hazard for him. I thought maybe he could just wear his ring on a necklace or something, but I've been reading up about electricians and wedding rings and I've been forced to accept that any metallic jewellery is probably a bad idea. I haven't talked to Zig about it yet, our last talk about it was several months ago. However it appears my choices are either hope he remembers to wear a normal ring when not working and then remembers to take it off when he is working, or look into alternatives. A tattoo ring is right out, neither of us are really in favour of tattoos. So that leaves plastic, agate/jade, or wood. Not really glamorous options. Wood could be alright, but I've personally never been a big fan of wooden jewellery. Plastic seems a little tacky. Agate or jade would be cool, but I've experienced such materials snapping suddenly before so it doesn't seem prudent for longevity. Oh well, I've got a fair while to think about it and change my attitude *heh*

My birthday picnic party went well, and my hat was fabulous. All my presents were lovely. I went out to another party afterwards and had a good time there too, coming home to bed about 5am. Then I got to eat deep fried camembert the next day. In fact, the whole birthday/Australia Day weekend was fantastic.
