Tenacious stranglehold
Wednesday, May 19th, 2004 11:30 amEvery so often work gets a little quiet. Everyone else still has stuff to do, but I'm left with time on my hands. This makes me nervous. As the days go by, I've been more and more relaxed about looking at websites of my choosing that are non-work related, and have even been on a forum. So having the time free isn't a problem of itself.
The nervousness stems from the worry that Shaw will decide I'm superfluous and discontinue my work here. I've gotten to the stage where I'm really enjoying myself, and have more confidence in knowing what's going on. Everyone has mostly gotten used to me being around and are more friendly. I'm also loving the money. :D So all up, I really don't want to leave here now.
Truth be told, there's not that much to worry about. Every so often Shaw adds some trivial thing for me to do. Yesterday afternoon he told me to find all the plants in the building and water them every 2-3 days in winter and every day in summer. Sounds long term to me. :D
My job is now:
-^- Answer phones when everyone else is too busy to, take msgs and email the relevant staff telling them to call people back.
-^- Organise deliveries. This involves asking the technicians nicely to please get that machine ready by x time so I can get it out to the customer on time. It also involves figuring if it's by courier or express post, and if it's by courier, which one? Then I have to pack up the order so that stuff won't break while it's being delivered, and ask Stephanie for the invoice. Once it's been picked up by the courier, I have to record the details in a spreadsheet. Details are customer code, sale order number, invoice number, date, courier, consignment number, customer, suburb going to, and any comments pertinent to the delivery such as if it was warrenty or a back order, etc.
-^- Keep the kitchen organised. I don't think he meant spotless, just a little less chaotic. So I wash the cups every so often and put them away, and this morning I refilled the water in the coffe machine.
-^- Water the plants. Keep them alive.
It's just in those quiet times...when everyone has things to do and I don't.....*gets nervous*.
