Brothers, mice, and landlords
Thursday, July 17th, 2003 11:18 amSomeone called up last night out of the blue. They're the boyfriend of a friend who has fallen into the "haven't contacted for so long in would be weird to contact them now" category. So they called me up, and invited me out to lasertag! A lock-in at Zone 3, Friday midnight until Sat morn 6am. Should be interesting. Z doesn't want to go though, and one of my brothers can't afford it. I'm hoping the other one will want to go before he flies back to Sydney Saturday midnight. I was supposed to see him last night at a family dinner, but I got my headache and tummy upset. Gotta see him before he goes back, hopefully at lasertag :)
I got mice. I think they're cute, so I don't rush around madly trying to exterminate them. Every so often I put out a trap and thin their numbers, but this latest generation has turned out to be very smart. Or at least smart trap-wise. They're really confident mice too. They run out into the open, and only run back again if you move in a suspicous way. Anyway, this one here takes the cake. I have a pile of tissues between my monitor and my computer box. I clean it out every so often, but right now it's pretty full. This mouse here is crawling around in those tissues. Talk about sass. It's less than half a metre away from me, hidden in the pile. They are soooo cute!
Realistically, I probably shouldn't be on my computer right now. The main headache may be gone, but it's still lurking behind my eyes. A friend is coming around today, so that'll help me not spend as much time staring at screens.
Oh, and one last thing. In our backyard, I've become used to this grapevine on a trellis thing that makes a small area feel a little like a pegola. I walked outside this morning, and it was gone! The trellis is completely gone except for the two posts against the fence, and the grapevine stump is sitting out in the middle of the grass looking forlorn and lonely, as well as lifeless. It's these little suprises that we've come to expect from our landlord. We don't have rent inspections, but we do wake up to find things like grapevines gone, or him fixing a tile on the roof, or the contracted lawnmower people mowing the lawn. It's kinda creepy feeling. An invasion of privacy without any actual invasion of privacy *shudder*
